Kira Bennett

Early Years Faculty

Kira Bennett is a classically trained pianist and violinist and is currently completing a bachelor of education degree from Simon Fraser University. For nearly ten years she has passed along her love of performing and composing to young music learners. Kira has attended, accompanied, and instructed numerous Celtic music groups in BC and worldwide, such as the North Shore Celtic Ensemble, Ceol Mor in Aberdeen, Scotland, the Coast School of Celtic Music in Roberts Creek, and the Sligo traditional summer school in Ireland.

Kira aims to share her love of ukulele, piano, and violin with her students through her fun yet structured teaching approach. By getting to know her students, she is able to curate her lessons according to their wonderfully unique personalities as well as their individual musical goals. Kira believes learning never stops. She is always striving to learn more about her craft by taking workshops, lessons, and immersing herself in the music community to be better equipped to serve her students with the best education they can get.

  • Does my child need a ukulele to take this course?

    Yes, a ukulele will be required to get the most benefit out of this course. There will be plenty of opportunities to play and sing along.

  • Can my child take this course alone?

    Parental supervision is highly recommended, particularly for children under the age of 8, to help them navigate through the course modules and to assist them through the learning journey.

  • I don't know much about music. How can I assist my child throughout this course?

    Tips for parents are built in throughout the video lessons to help parents guide their child on posture, hand positioning, and correct fingering.

  • I am over 8 years old. Can I still take this course?

    Pacing, language, and songs in the course are tailored to children aged 4-8 years. Individuals older than 8 are still welcome to take the course for a beginner introduction to the ukulele. You can expect to learn 4 chords and 4 children's songs.
